California Proposition 65 FAQs
As part of our continued commitment to ensure our products meet consumer product safety requirements, we have created this page to provide information regarding Proposition 65 (Prop 65) as it pertains to our products and items you need to know as a consumer of our products.
What is Prop 65?
Prop 65 (otherwise known as the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986) lays out requirements for both the State and for businesses. First the State must publish a list of chemicals which are known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The second step is that businesses which are subject to Prop 65 are required to provide a clear and reasonable warning prior to distributing a product that may have a chemical listed in Prop 65.
The current list of chemicals contains more than 900 naturally-occurring and synthetic chemicals. Some of the listed chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic are naturally found in the environment and also are often found in common foods and nutrients even though these chemicals are not directly added. (For the complete list of chemicals, visit https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list)
Why is there a warning label on certain products?
Pana C-315 contains a variety of ingredients (mainly minerals) which can naturally contain lead. All of our ingredients are sourced with a focus on quality; however, there is no way to remove the lead from the ingredients. Every lot of our finished product is tested to ensure that levels stay within the specifications laid out by the Food and Drug Administration. You will find this label on the bottom of our products sold in the State of California:
“WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including lead,
which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects.
For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.”
It is very important to note that a Prop 65 warning notice does not mean our products are dangerous or harmful.
The exposure limits that the State of California has set for many chemicals on the Prop 65 list are far below the “safe” limits set by all other states. They are below guiding regulatory agencies as well, like the Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and even the World Health Organization. Our products are the same quality products you have come to expect from MSMI.
